Clinique High Impact Mascara

Hey everyone,
Today I'll be reviewing Clinique's High Impact mascara in 01 Black, which I purchased at Sephora a few months back. I was searching for a new mascara since my Tokidoki Punk Lash was sort of drying out and I was curious about Clinique's line of mascaras.

Clinique High Impact mascara

High Impact cost me $18 CAD and is described to be a "...richly pigmented mascara that kicks up the volume of each individual lash" and also claims to lengthen your lashes while providing deep color. Now after having used it for about 6 months (and no, I don't particularly throw out my mascaras after 3 months), I can say that it really does lengthen lashes and has been one of the most pigmented mascaras I've ever used. Clinique has done a wonderful job in creating a product that actually does make the lashes look very black. Given the extreme pigmentation, the mascara really does melt off in the shower; if you touch your lashes while in a hot shower, it removes quite easily. So definitely no complaints there and another wonderful feature of the product.

Now I have quite fine lashes, so volumizing mascaras do usually clump my lashes together, although I want to point out that High Impact didn't weigh my lashes down and they appeared quite curled even though I don't use an eyelash curler.Unfortunately there definitely is major clumping of lashes to the point that if I apply two coats, I look like I have spider legs for lashes; especially when I apply it to the bottom lashes as well. I do appreciate the added length, just not the clumpy lashes.

So I think the main reason for the clumpy lashes is the formula itself. It's a really thick, goopey consistency and I think the stopper used to control the amount of product deposited onto the brush, may be defective because every time I pull the brush out, there's enough mascara to coat maybe 5 sets of lashes! The brush head is smothered with product and I have to use a tissue to remove any excess. I think if the stopper was more effective thereby depositing less product onto the wand (i.e. no more clumpy lashes), Clinique's High Impact would be an amazing mascara.

In conclusion, even though this product didn't work for me, if you have naturally thick lashes, looking for a mascara that provides length, really black lashes and you're fine with clumping, then definitely check out High Impact wherever Clinique products are sold in your neighbourhood!
